Established as a registered charity in 2001, the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is based at Stonham Aspal in Suffolk, where it operates a comprehensive facility for the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region, and the promotion of owl conservation throughout the UK and beyond. The Sanctuary is open to the public all year round where it maintains the following services as the beneficiary of public donations.
There are over 80 raptors at the Centre, all housed in spacious aviaries and flying free in narrated flying displays or demonstrations.
You will also find Red Squirrels, the Raptor Hospital, The Barclays Sensory Garden, an information centre about Owls, a woodland walk with bird hide, picnic areas and plenty of activities for children including a mini-maze, adventure frame, chipmunks, the new MeerKat Kastle, plus the famous Owl Barn Gift Shop at Stonham. With the exception of the Woodland Walk during winter, the centre is wheelchair friendly.
There is a new custom built play area with wheelchair accessible equipment and tumble safe surface now available. Assistance for hearing and sight impaired visitors is also provided. BSL signing interpreter in residence on selected dates (please ‘phone for details).
Access Information: Full disabled access to the owl sanctuary (with the expectation of woodland areas which are not tarmac’d and may became soggy when wet, limiting wheelchair access) and special viewing areas for disabled visitors to watch the flying displays.
One child goes free with a full paying adult.
