South Shields Museum

South Shields Museum explores the story of South Tyneside through a series of displays, hands-on exhibits and stunning art.

Tales of South Tyneside delves into the local and social history of the area during the twentieth century and looks at some of South Tyneside’s most famous children including legendary author Catherine Cookson and war hero John Simpson Kirkpatrick. Art Adventure takes a fresh approach to the interpretation of many of the Museum’s paintings and Changing Faces charts the history of South Tyneside from the Bronze Age to the twentieth century through the Museum’s archaeological, natural and historical collections.

The museum has regular exhibitions and a range of activities and events to suit all ages including Tremendous Tuesdays which are run by the learning team every Tuesday during School holidays.
