BALTIC is a major international centre for contemporary art situated on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead. It presents an ever-changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions and offers a range of free family drop-in, free workshops. The Family Programme includes large participatory events during school holidays as well as weekly activites such as Busy Bs, Toddler Time and Family Quest. Families are encouraged to explore the exhibitions using Exhibition Explorer packs while teenage visitors can seek out their own activities at the Art Mix Hub. Since opening in July 2002 BALTIC welcomed more than 5.5 million visitors.
